Stevenage was the 1st of the post war New Towns (or London overspill towns), we
were granted New Town status in the mid 1940's and building was well under way
by the end of the 1940's.
Stevenage today is a thriving town with many businesses & leisure
facilities.
There are numerous facilities in Stevenage, we have a large multi-screen
cinema, a town full of shops with a large indoor market, additionally there is
shopping in Stevenage Old Town and a large retail park just a few minutes out of
the main town centre.
For eating, the Old Town boasts a number of restaurants, we have the usual
array of fast food outlets in the town centre, and also on the retail &
leisure park complex.
Leisure facilities include a swimming pool, an array of sports facilities at
the main leisure centre. There are several nationwide gym's / health clubs and a
number of local ones. We have a huge list of sports facilities and clubs that
make use of them.
The Old Town High St still retains it's coaching origins and many of the
original Inns and hotels are still functioning today. The New Town also has a
number of the major hotel chains along with a number of private small hotels and
B&B's |
